  • Young Carers

To all at Lechlade & District Lions Club

On behalf of Gloucestershire Young Carers, I would like to thank you for your recent donation of £500.00 via Give As You Live.

Your support is important to us especially at this time when young carers lives have been so impacted by Covid-19 and the pandemic. We have continued to be in contact with young carers and their families as best we can virtually and remotely during these difficult 2 years, providing a much-needed support network for them during this troubling time.

We are pleased to have resumed regular face to face respite groups whilst still offering a remote group too. Our calendar of activity days for young carers throughout the year is full of exciting opportunities and we are providing 121 support and assessments in school and home settings as safely as possible.

I am really interested in hearing more in what prompted you to donate to us. I appreciate you have opted out for Charity Marketing.

Thank you again for supporting the ‘young' in young carer and we hope you will keep in touch with our work to see your money in action.

    Regards

Naomi Martin | Finance & Fundraising Assistant

  • Hope for Tomorrow

Good afternoon Lions Club of Lechlade and District,

You very kindly support Hope for Tomorrow, so I wanted to get in touch to say thank you, and give you an update on the Unit ‘Helen’ who operates in your local community.

You may know that ‘Helen’ was Hope for Tomorrow’s and the world’s first Mobile Cancer Care Unit, and is partnered with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, delivering 1,237 cancer care treatments since April 2021 to local cancer patients. ‘Helen’ travels to four local car parks in Stroud, Tewkesbury, Cirencester and Cinderford, and without this Unit patients may have to travel considerable distances to receive treatment elsewhere. Worryingly, some people tell us that without our Units, they wouldn’t receive treatment because getting to hospital is too difficult.

One of our patients who used ‘Helen’ told us “To know you’ll be seen quickly in such a caring and friendly environment makes the experience so much easier to deal with. I am very grateful to Hope for Tomorrow.”

By having their cancer care treatment aboard our Units, patients can maintain their independence and quality of life, saving time and money, as they can fit their treatment into their lives, not the other way around. ‘Helen’s’ presence in Gloucestershire is precious, helping to provide the NHS with a safe environment to deliver cancer care treatment to patients within their local communities, closer to their homes.

Thank you so much once again for your support in helping cancer patients in your local community, and for keeping ‘Helen’s’ wheels turning.

    Hope for Tomorrow

  • Help Madina

“We are seeing terrible cases of malnutrition - the photos are too distressing to show but attached is a photo of a little boy who is recovering in the feeding centre. This may be the result of the tragic events in Ukraine and of course the cost of oil. So, people are hungry, and children are always the most vulnerable.

But I have calculated that literally hundreds of lives of little ones have been saved over the years thanks to the feeding centre and the wonderful support we receive.

I have also attached a photo of our happy patients who have had cataract surgery thereby restoring sight. Infact, they were so happy that they have spread the word and we have quite a list of patients waiting !

A major problem is that of hernias. We travelled around the villages to assess need. Time and time again, we were told that people slip into poverty when they can no longer work on the farms due to hernias. We see the most extraordinarily large hernias. These cause terrible suffering.

[On receipt of £1000 funding from the Lechlade and District LIons in July 2022] I've just returned from Chiang Mai this weekend and found your amazing email !!! What a wonderful surprise. On behalf of all those we are privileged to serve in Sierra Leone, a very BIG thank you - to all of the wonderful Lions.

Your enduring support over the last 12 years has made such a huge difference to the lives of so many and I struggle to find the words to express my gratitude. "

“Wow - amazing! Thank you so so much for your support. It will really help to continue to make our tea dance a great success. thank you so much again"

  • The Lechlade Repair Cafe

Repair cafes are being set up all over the country to reduce waste and make things work. – for free! They also provide a community space for people to volunteer to help out.

The Lechlade Repair Cafe started in March to support residents of Lechlade, Fairford and local village to get portable household goods and appliances repaired, and extending their working life rather than going to landfill.

One of the requirements to comply with health and safety regulations is for all electrical items to be PAT tested. – which need a certificated Portable Appliance Tester.

The Lechlade and District Lions contributed £350 to this local good cause to help out! And get it up and running

One response was “I think you should call your self's the LEGENDS! Thank you Lions.”

  • Cirencester Foodbank

“On behalf of Cirencester Foodbank, a huge thank you to everyone at Lechlade Lions for your incredible support of the Foodbank in 2021. It has been another busy year for the Foodbank.

Fairford and Lechlade deliveries: this week we have delivered to 10 clients across Fairford, Lechlade and nearby villages.

Your support allows us to continue to help people in crisis such as these clients, thank you. “

  • Lechlade Collectors Club

    "Good Evening Ian.

A big big thank you to the Lechlade Lions and friends for supporting us at our 8th Lechlade Annual Vintage Rally & Country show last weekend, both with the Car parking and the Pay Gate, and of course the loan of the Card Reader which helped to boost our takings. The participation of the Lions was perfectly coordinated, went very smoothly and with great dedication, for which Ray & I are greatly appreciative. We are planning next year already, are the Lions `up for it again` hope so.

Once again a big big thank you to you all, hoping you did not get too worn out and tired.

    Best wishes to you all.

    Kind regards

    Margaret & Ray
